Why your main image is quietly costing you clicks
Search results are a thumbnail contest. Here is what we change first when CTR is the bottleneck.
Most brands obsess over the listing copy and ignore the one asset shoppers see before they ever reach it: the main image in search. If shoppers don't click, nothing on the detail page matters.
Check this before anything else
- Open search on a phone. Does your product read clearly at thumbnail size?
- Is the product filling at least 85% of the frame?
- Do the pack size or count show up without zooming?
- Does it look different from the three listings either side of you?
What usually moves the number
Tighter cropping, a better angle that shows the product's shape, and showing pack count on the item itself. We test one change at a time with Manage Your Experiments so we know what actually worked.
A good main-image test often lifts click-through rate by 10–30%, and that feeds straight into ranking because Amazon rewards listings shoppers choose.
